What’s Really Standing Between You and Financial Clarity?

You’re smart. You’re scrappy. But when it comes to your finances, something’s not clicking — and it’s not your fault. You don’t need another bookkeeping tip. You need to name what’s actually keeping you stuck.

What’s Holding You Back From Financial Clarity?

In my post Bookkeeping for Solopreneurs, I talked about how bookkeeping doesn’t have to be scary or complicated. With the right systems, tools, and mindset, it can become a foundation of confidence for your business.

But here’s the thing: knowing what “good bookkeeping” can look like doesn’t always translate into taking action. Because between where you are and where you want to be, there’s often something in the way.

Here are some of the most common blockers I see that keep solopreneurs stuck in limbo. And if one of these feels familiar, you’re not alone. As you read through these blockers, notice which one feels true for you — and share it in the following survey

Trust & Control

What It Feels Like: “What if they mess it up?” / “I’ll lose control if I hand this over.”
Why It Stops You: Letting someone else inside your finances feels risky. You fear mistakes, losing agency, or being judged for not having things together yet.

Chaos Behind the Scenes

What It Feels Like: “It’s a mess in my books right now.”
Why It Stops You: When things are already disorganized, it feels impossible to delegate. You tell yourself you have to “clean up first,” which only delays getting support.

Time Investment

What It Feels Like: “It’ll take forever to explain everything.”
Why It Stops You: Onboarding feels like more work than doing it yourself, so you put it off — even though getting help would save you time in the long run.

Cost Concerns

What It Feels Like: “I can’t afford help right now.”
Why It Stops You: Professional bookkeeping feels like a luxury expense, instead of what it actually is: an investment that can uncover savings, prevent costly mistakes, and free up your energy for revenue-generating work.

Fear of Judgment

What It Feels Like: “Everyone else has their act together except me.”
Why It Stops You: The idea of showing someone your financial “mess” feels embarrassing or shameful. You’d rather struggle quietly than risk feeling exposed.

These are the walls between where you are right now and the clarity you want in your finances. Some are internal (like fear or pride), and some are practical (time, cost, structure).

Why Your Experience Matters

I want to hear your specific blocker — not just the ones I listed. That’s why I created the Small Business Owner Bookkeeping Survey.

Because when I know what’s really stopping solopreneurs like you, I can build content, tools, and training that move the needle for you, not just an abstract “small business owner.”

If any of the blockers above make your chest tighten (or if you have a blocker I haven’t named yet), I’d be honored if you’d let me in by taking a few minutes to share your experience. Your answers will help me:

  • Create resources that speak directly to your struggle
  • Offer educational content that dismantles your walls, not someone else’s
  • Tailor future content based on your actual needs

(No fluff. No vague assumptions. Just real, usable help.)

Before You Fix It, Let’s Name It
